A Timeless Trend: RDS and NYC Fashion Week

We Help Make the Logistics Go Smoothly

Fans of New York City’s annual Fashion Week are once again gearing up for the city’s big show—and the team here at RDS is thrilled to continue to play its part. In a few weeks, the streets of Manhattan will be swirling with designers, models, photographers, journalists, editors and makeup artists as they arrive in town for the upcoming excitement.

The buzz surrounding this year’s Sept. 6-14 event is nothing less than super hot. But as that energy flows through the city, we can’t forget how much work and preparation goes into pulling off such a large event. From carefully planned deliveries, displays, storage arrangements and additional logistics, there’s a great deal to consider. Still, for years New York has been pulling off its annual fashion event in flawless fashion—and we’ve always been right by the city’s side to help make behind-the-scenes magic.

Curious how Fashion Week has changed over the years? Here’s a fun list of 10 facts you might not know:

  1. The very first NYC “Fashion Press Week” was created in 1943 by Eleanor Lambert.
  2. There are roughly 300 shows held during the eight-day event.
  3. During the event, a whopping $6 million is spent on hotels.
  4. Celebrities are often paid to sit in the front rows. (The average front row holds 130 seats.)
  5. Ticket prices can range anywhere from $50 for general seating to $1,500 for VIP tickets.
  6. Roughly 230,00 people attend the event each year.
  7. Over 250 designers will show each year.
  8. In 1993, New York Fashion Week was officially organized by Fern Mallis, director of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. It was branded “7th on Sixth.”
  9. Being the first model to “open the show” is a huge honor in the fashion world.
  10. New York’s Fashion Week is the first in a line of four fashion shows known as the Big Four. New York is followed by London, Milan and Paris.
