- The very first NYC “Fashion Press Week” was created in 1943 by Eleanor Lambert.
- There are roughly 300 shows held during the eight-day event.
- During the event, a whopping $6 million is spent on hotels.
- Celebrities are often paid to sit in the front rows. (The average front row holds 130 seats.)
- Ticket prices can range anywhere from $50 for general seating to $1,500 for VIP tickets.
- Roughly 230,00 people attend the event each year.
- Over 250 designers will show each year.
- In 1993, New York Fashion Week was officially organized by Fern Mallis, director of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. It was branded “7th on Sixth.”
- Being the first model to “open the show” is a huge honor in the fashion world.
- New York’s Fashion Week is the first in a line of four fashion shows known as the Big Four. New York is followed by London, Milan and Paris.
