Expect Delivery Delays: Street Closures for UN General Assembly Causing Traffic Nightmare

Driving is never easy in the Big Apple. But this week traffic is especially challenging—and it’s delaying RDS Same Day Delivery drivers and foot messengers. New York City officials are encouraging people who live and work here to avoid driving while the United Nations General Assembly is in session. That’s because security is intensely heavy for this global committee meeting.

Streets are closed, parking is limited, barricades are blocking traffic and Secret Service and police officers are monitoring access points. The United Nations is at First Avenue and East 42nd Street, but road closures extend far beyond, and they are slowing traffic in an even larger radius through the tri-state area.

While the NYPD urges everyone to use public transportation until the session ends Monday, that’s not an option for RDS Same Day Delivery messengers in vans and trucks who are committed to making our local deliveries. Also due to the extra security precautions, visitors and packages arriving at buildings around the United Nations are subject to increased screening—further slowing down your reliable RDS messengers.

RDS wants our customers to know we are doing our best to get to you when you need us despite the tremendous traffic problems the closures and security are causing. We’re always moving at the speed of a “New York minute,” and you are accustomed to sending and receiving your packages on time. Unfortunately, this pace is impossible this week. We kindly ask for your patience while we navigate the gridlock.
